Martingale Cognac has officially made its debut in the United States, marking a bold new chapter for one of Cognac’s most quietly respected and historically rooted families. For over a century, the Thomas family has been a trusted source of premium eaux-de-vie for some of the most prestigious names in the industry, quietly shaping the character of celebrated blends from behind the scenes. Now, with the launch of Martingale, they emerge from the shadows to take center stage with a label that is entirely their own. Led by fourth-generation brothers Guillaume and Amaury Thomas, Martingale represents both a personal legacy fulfilled and a contemporary vision realized—a spirit designed for today’s discerning drinkers who appreciate both tradition and originality. With the release of Batch 0001, now on shelves, the Thomas family offers a Cognac that is as refined as it is refreshingly unexpected—rooted in heritage, yet unapologetically forward-thinking.

At the recent Elevate Summit by LAPSOFLUX at Soho Works, the day began with a thoughtful touch that perfectly captured the spirit of the gathering. Guests were welcomed with a classic French 75—elegantly reimagined with Martingale Cognac. The cocktail offered a modern twist on tradition, seamlessly blending the timeless sophistication of Cognac with the effervescence of champagne and a hint of citrus. It was more than just a welcome drink—it was a statement. Attendees were quick to take notice, with many raving about the unexpected yet harmonious flavor profile, praising its balance and freshness. Amid a room filled with tastemakers, thought leaders, and creatives across luxury, wellness, and design, Martingale’s presence was both subtle and powerful. The cocktail quietly underscored a shift in the fine spirits landscape—one that embraces nuance, narrative, and lifestyle-centric taste. Much like the summit itself, Martingale represented a new era of elevated living—rooted in heritage but designed for the discerning modern palate.

Crafted with the same entrepreneurial spirit that defined their grandfather Raymond Thomas, Martingale is the result of years of vision, investment, and deep-rooted passion. The Thomas estate spans over 600 acres across the top crus of the Cognac region and maintains complete control from grape to glass—a rarity in the industry. Rejecting additives and embracing a lighter, more vibrant profile, Amaury Thomas has ushered in a contemporary approach to Cognac production that honors the past while looking squarely toward the future. The result is a liquid that is fragrant, fresh, and reflective of today’s evolving tastes. The liquid’s delicate yet complex character is achieved through a thoughtful blend of Cognac crus. Grande Champagne lends depth and structure, Petite Champagne adds spice and balance, Fins Bois provides a supple body, and Borderies—the rarest of the crus—delivers the floral elegance that defines Martingale’s signature style. From the first sip, expect notes of spring flowers, almonds, vanilla, and French madeleine, followed by a refined finish of oak and sandalwood. It’s a spirit that bridges the nuance of fine wine with the depth of great whisky—crafted with intention for a new generation of Cognac lovers.

Martingale’s sophisticated aesthetic is as considered as its liquid. The bottle design takes cues from Château d’Ars, the Thomas family’s historic 17th-century estate near Cognac. From its elongated silhouette and beveled glass to the elegant “M” emblem and green-stained glass motif, every element of the packaging pays homage to legacy and craftsmanship. Positioned between traditional VSOP and XO offerings, Martingale Cognac fills a long-standing gap in the market with premium storytelling, modern flavor, and timeless style. As Guillaume Thomas shares, “With the liquid, the bottle, and the heritage, I believe Martingale will uphold the long-standing reputation for the quality, consistency, and legacy that my grandfather, Raymond, attentively built.”
